Recent University of Texas findings suggest that men who drink two to three cups of java a day—or 85 to 170 milligrams of caffeine from other beverages—are 42 percent less likely to have erectile dysfunction than those who consume up to seven milligrams of the stimulant daily.
And those who throw back four to seven cups were 39 percent less likely to have the condition than their less jittery counterparts.
The trend holds true among overweight, obese and hypertensive men, but not for those with diabetes, a condition that often causes the issue.

This juicy red fruit could be the new sexual star. While watermelon is 92 percent water, the remaining eight percent contains the phytonutrient citrulline, which converts to arginine, an amino acid that relaxes blood vessels, according to 2008 research from Texas A&M University’s department of horticultural sciences.
Although not as organ-specific as drugs that treat men’s erectile dysfunction, watermelon may help improve blood flow to erectile tissue (present in the female clitoral area as well as the male penis), increasing arousal.
Scientists at the university’s Fruit and Vegetable Improvement Center are now working on increasing the fruit’s citrulline content.

Massimo Marcone, an associate professor of food science at the University of Guelph, used to dismiss aphrodisiacs as mere folklore.
In 2011, in fact, he conducted a thorough scientific review of more than 200 international studies on consumable aphrodisiacs. He rejected almost all as invalid. But Marcone was shocked to find that a few studies on one particular spice-saffron-held up to close scrutiny.
“Not only does saffron appear to have aphrodisiac properties for both men and women,” Marcone says, “but it helps with anxiety, insomnia, PMS and insulin resistance.”
The seductive spice, whose red-gold threads come from a type of crocus that is native to Mediterranean Europe and Southwest Asia (not the same variety that pokes its pretty head through Canadian snows in early spring), contains antioxidants including crocin, crocetin and safranal.
These are believed to be responsible for increasing sexual desire and arousal, according to studies, Marcone reviewed. In the studies, they measured blood flow to sexual organs and frequency of sexual encounters after consuming the spice.
The ancients knew saffron‘s power: It’s said that Alexander the Great added it to his rice and tea, Cleopatra bathed in it before meeting her lovers, and Romans were known to sprinkle saffron on newlyweds’ beds.
Available in supermarket spice aisles and used in Spanish paella, Moroccan tajine, Italian risotto and many Persian/Iranian dishes, saffron is pricey, running from $50 to $300 an ounce. But a little—a tiny pinch—goes a very long way,says post-doctoral fellow Sanan Wang, who worked with Marcone on the review.

Certain foods possess qualities that can be helpful for managing ED. Consuming the juice of beets (aka, beetroot) is frequently associated with improving blood pressure. In fact, a recent study in Hypertension reported that drinking 8.5 ounces of beet juice daily for four weeks resulted in a decline in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure as well as an approximately 20 percent improvement in blood vessel dilation capacity and a 10 percent reduction in artery stiffness.
Once nitrates are consumed, they are converted into nitric oxide, which opens up blood vessels and improves blood flow. One example comes from the Journal of the American College of Nutrition, in which beetroot extract supplement “provided neuromuscular advantages” during resistance exercise. Capsaicin is the bioactive ingredient in chili peppers that can relax your arteries and facilitate better blood flow to the muscles, heart, and other organs, including the penis. Capsaicin is helpful for reducing cholesterol and blood pressure as well as protecting against blood clots. There is also evidence that capsaicin can improve exercise performance and fatigue.
Although it’s been known that capsaicin enhances production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which is intimately involved in energy production, a new study reported in Nutrients explored this concept further. The scientists evaluated the impact of no capsaicin (control) or capsaicin fed to mice at various doses over four weeks, after which the animals were tested for fatigue and exercise performance. Capsaicin increased glucose concentration as well as hepatic glycogen content, which is an important source of energy for exercise.
You should definitely consider going a little nuts if you want to add a boost to your erectile function. Not all nuts are created equally, however, so be picky when including a handful of raw, unsalted nuts in your diet daily. Brazil nuts, for example, help elevate testosterone because they are a powerhouse of magnesium. In a 2014 review of the interplay between magnesium and testosterone in men, the reviewers noted that men with low magnesium and testosterone deficiency “could benefit from magnesium and/or T treatment targeting physical performance.”
