Dental Emergencies That Require An Emergency Dentist
Dentistry emergencies can happen when we least expect them and are often very painful. They require immediate attention and treatment in order to preserve the teeth and prevent infection. In some cases, prompt action can even save a tooth that would otherwise be lost. If you are experiencing a dental emergency, please call our office right away and we will be happy to see you for an emergency appointment.
Broken Filling
A broken filling is a fairly common and easy to treat dental emergency. The pain caused by a broken filling may be due to an underlying decay problem or it could simply be that something is stuck between your teeth. To relieve the pain, rinse your mouth with a salt water solution and floss to remove any debris that might be lodged between your teeth.
Loose or Dislodged Teeth
In some cases, teeth become loosened or partially dislodged due to trauma or biting down on hard objects. The dentist will often be able to save the tooth, but it is essential to contact the practice immediately to schedule an appointment. The dentist will usually reposition the tooth and add splints to stabilize it.
Tooth Abscess
An abscessed tooth is a pus-filled swelling in the gum or near the root of a tooth. These painful and bacterial infections require immediate care in order to drain the infection and protect the surrounding healthy tissue. Our emergency dentist can drain the abscess and provide antibiotic treatment to help prevent the infection from spreading to other parts of the body.
